Oddities 34: Switched at Birth? Part 13

Crono from Chrono Trigger

Gohan from Dragon Ball Z

Submitted by Heather, "I recently noticed that Crono from Chrono Trigger looks exactly like Gohan from Dragonball Z in his super-saiyan form, only with red hair. I've enclosed a picture of both of them."

FO's Comment: It was one thing when Akira Toriyama's characters looked like other artists' characters. Now it's gotten to the point where they look like each other. Lately, it seems like every one of his characters is either Gohan or Bulma with different clothing and hair color.

Rick from Splatterhouse

Edgar using Chainsaw in FF6

The 2nd boss of Kid Dracula

Super Mario Land 2 enemy

Jason Voorhees

More things that look like Jason Voorhees courtesy of various site readers whose names were accidentally deleted when I changed the code for this page.

FO's Comment: What? No Casey Jones from TMNT? I doubt any of these are coincidence, and that mask doesn't quite fit over Edgar's face. You can still see his left eye.

Benimaru from KoF

Paul Phoenix from Tekken

Jean Pierre Polnareff from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure 3

Eiji "Edge" Yamada from Rival Schools

Submitted by LVK138, "In Switched at Birth part 10, somebody submitted a resemblance between Paul Phoenix and Benimaru. However, I can spot two more resemblances to them: Jean Pierre Polnareff from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure part 3 and Eiji "Edge" Yamada from Rival Schools."

FO's Comment: I can't think of a better way to appear more badass than sporting a flowbee cut while wearing a purple jacket, pink sweater, and blowing bubble gum.

Goda from Breath of Fire

Stone Man from Mega Man 5

The Thing from Fantastic Four

The Goda/Stone Man part was submitted by Tory Ficarola. This was also mentioned in the Cameos Database. Crawl and 1000 also noted that they look like Fantastic Four's Thing.

FO's Comment: I'm still doubting the Stone Man/Goda one is coincidence. Both are Capcom games and even the shape of the face is the same.

Ash Ketchum from Pokemon

Ness from Earthbound

Submitted by Aaron Oberne, "Ash Ketchum and Ness from Earthbound, funny ain't it, they both have red caps and black hair."

FO's Comment: Back when Pokemon first came out on the Gameboy, I had thought that Ash reminded me a little of Ness. They may not look exactly alike, and these pictures are about the closest they ever get, but the idea of a little kid with a red cap who travels the world on a quest while facing incredible odds is similar, too.

Wario

Booster from Super Mario RPG

Submitted by Thibaut Salembier, "Is it just me or does Booster look like Wario? Same big red nose and funny 'stache!"

FO's Comment: I wonder if they're related.

Lara Croft

Madonna

Submitted by Thibaut Salembier...

Lara Croft

Marilyn Monroe

And again by Thibaut Salembier, "Lara Croft seems to have her real-life counterparts!"

FO's Comment: I doubt those pictures are coincidence. Funny stuff!

B. Orchid from Killer Instinct

Esmeralda from The Hunchback of Notre Dame

Submitted by Crawl and 1000. Not only do they look alike in skin, hair color, and build, but they both have that big yellow earring, too.

FO's Comment: It would've been awesome if the finale of Hunchback had Esmeralda turning into a giant fire puma and performing a DANGER move on Judge Frollo.

Bang from Clash at Demonhead

Yamcha from Dragon Ball Z

Submitted by Sarahsuke, "It's really quite obvious, but Yamcha from Dragonball Z looks like Bang from Clash at Demonhead. He looks more like Bang than Goku does, really, right down to the hair and the scar on the cheek. Enclosed is a picture, and give credit to Sarahsuke, okay?"

FO's Comment: True, but that scar is pretty much the only way to tell Goku and Yamcha apart.

The Buddhist Mummy, Tetsumonkai

Ninja Spirit's Final Boss

Submitted by Haniwa Dogu, "This is about the last boss in Ninja Spirit, another Switched At Birth? entry. Take a look at this Buddhist mummy, Tetsumonkai, or Tetsu-ryoukai, and notice the similarities."

FO's Comment: Well, that's just too screwed up for words.

Raziel from Legacy of Kain

Icarus from Rygar: The Legendary Adventure

Submitted by Sotenga.

FO's Comment: And doesn't Raziel get wings eventually, or am I just making that up?

Tachibana Ukkyo
from Samurai Shodown

Shishiwakamaru
from Yu Yu Hakusho

Sephiroth
from Final Fantasy 7

Ukkyo/Shishi Submitted by LordDraco3. Sephiroth submitted by BJ Strykes.

FO's Comment: Eh, eh, and eh...sometimes characters tend to look alike from just one specific angle.

Paul Phoenix from Tekken

James Hetfield from Metallica

Submitted by Andrew, "The picture of Paul from Tekken you showed, mainly SDed...looks a lot like Metallica's (BOO!) James Hetfield to me."

FO's Comment: Awesome!! Now if only we could give James Hetfield a Flowbee cut...

Ganondorf from Legend of Zelda

James Hetfield from Metallica

Submitted by Crawl and 1000. More Metallica madness!

FO's Comment: Now all Nintendo needs to do is remake The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the DS, and this time have Ganondorf playing "Creeping Death" on the organ when you enter his room.

Ryo Hazuki from Shenmue

Jin Kazama from Tekken

Submitted by Andrew, "The hero of AM2/Sega's Shenmue, Ryo Hazuki seems to resemble Jin Kazama from Tekken and/or his father Kazuya Mishima."

FO's Comment: Why is Jin Kazama's name practically the same as Shin Kazama's from Area 88?

Albedo from Xenosaga

Ansem from Kingdom Hearts

Lynx from Chrono Cross

Submitted by Andrew, "A friend of mine (credit him as Chris Miller) believes Albedo from Xenosaga, Ansem from Kingdom Hearts, and Lynx from Chrono Chross all are quite similar. The first two strike me as more likely than the last, though."

FO's Comment: The first one (Albedo) strikes me as being what you'd get if you combined the other two. At the very least, it looks like they all shop at the same clothing store.

Lilith from DarkStalkers

Rei Ayanami from Evangelion

Submitted by Andrew, "If you're familiar with both, you know the similarity runs far deeper than just the red eyes and similar looks."

FO's Comment: Well, I'm not that familiar with them, so I have no idea what that means, but judging by what I DO know about Lilith, I probably don't want to know what it means...

Shin Kazama from Area 88/UN Squadron

Luke Skywalker from Star Wars

Submitted by Steve the Llama, "The visor is a dead give-away...."

FO's Comment: And speaking of Shin Kazama...Somehow, I doubt that's coincidence, but it could be...

Ganondorf from Legend of Zelda

Woody Allen

Submitted by Steve the Llama.

FO's Comment: LOL! I don't know if I see too much of a resemblance, myself, but it was too funny not to include.
