Switched at Birth? Reader Compilation 1

I went through my old emails and cleaned them all out. In the midst of this process, I found a bunch of SAB submissions that hadn't yet been added to the site. Here they are.

(Vampire Hunter D)

Submitted by Nghtmarz2, "I'm willing to bet that D at least KNOWS the cast of Inu-Yasha."

FO's Comment: We've had guys with bird-noses, humans with dog ears, creatures with an extra head in their crotch, and now this.

Gargoyle Boss
(Contra 3)

Submitted by Nghtmarz2, "Second-to-last boss is Ridley without a head."

FO's Comment: Both characters from games with heavy Aliens-influence, so it's not surprising.

Fat Zombie
(Doom 3)

Tor Johnson
(B-Movie Star)

Submitted by Will Keaton, "Normally I'd try to think of somthing witty to say here but I think the pictures pretty much speak for themselves."

FO's Comment: This was apparently also mentioned in the June 2003 issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly.

Gen Fu
(Dead or Alive)

(Street Fighter)

Tung Fu Rue
(Fatal Fury)

Submitted by Caressa Davis, "I know you already have an SAB with Tung Fu Rue and Gen, but I think Gen Fu should be added in there. All three's clothes have significant similarities and the facial hair."

FO's Comment: And two of them have almost the same name.

Chun Li
(Street Fighter)

Submitted by Hans Wurst, "Doesn't Tenten look like an anime version of Chun Li? Especially the dotty hairstyle and all that chinese stuff."

FO's Comment: Not familiar with Tenten, but they look similar in those particular pictures, I suppose.

(Metal Slug)

Flying Spaghetti Monster
(Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster)

Submitted by Vlad Sporea, "Ever noticed that the Alien from MetalSlug looks alot like the Flying Spaghetti Monster?"

FO's Comment: Didn't notice it before now, mainly because I still don't really know what the Flying Spaghetti Monster is...

(Hey Arnold!)

(Family Guy)

Nigel Uno
(Codename: Kids Next Door)

Submitted by Vlad Sporea, "Now there's 3 football heads! Ever notice how "Number1" from "Codename: Kids Next Door" is almost exactly like Stewie from Family Guy? They both use gadgets and (even though it's not trying to be) #1 looks incredibly evil, just like Stewie. I put Hey Arnold up there because he invented the expression "football head" and attribute that these 3 all have."

FO's Comment: The Arnold/Stewie one is especially weird.

The Forgotten One
(Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne)

(Eternal Darkness)

Submitted by Vlad Sporea, "The similarities are astounding and endless. Clearly this was intentional."

FO's Comment: If it's not intentional, then it's either an awfully big coincidence or both have a common source of reference.

(Digimon Adventure)

(Final Fantasy)

Submitted by Vlad Sporea, "Both Cacti, same facial expression! What's left to say?"

FO's Comment: Both appear to be based on those Japanese mythological Kodamas.

The Demon
(Ninja Gaiden)

Zeta Metroid

Submitted by Nghtmarz2, "They look too damn similar for it to be coincidence."

FO's Comment: It's probably because once again, there's Aliens influence in both designs.

Zhang He
(Dynasty Warriors)

(Street Fighter)

Submitted by Elriwel Ruviel, "Aside from the long hair, claws, and outfit (probably the pants if nothing else), their vanity and general fighting style should more than make them brothers."

FO's Comment: Nothing much to add.

(Pokemon Diamond/Pearl)

(Sonic the Hedgehog)

Submitted by TheGreatSvenster, "First time I saw Buizel, I instantly thought, "lol, Tails bootleg""

FO's Comment: What about Vulpix and Ninetails?

(Street Fighter)

(Fullmetal Alchemist)

Submitted by TheGreatSvenster, "Similar fronthair, both served in the military, both have a scar-like mark on their cheek, both are very flexible and good at combat, and both served a villain for a short time."

FO's Comment: Nothing to add.

(Fantastic Four)

Grand Galactic Inquisitor
(Venture Bros.)

Submitted by The Great Svenster, "IGNORE MEEEEE!"

FO's Comment: What is with those helmets? Am I the only one who thinks they look a little silly? Just a little?

(Final Fantasy X)

Submitted by q q, "They both have high-collared coats that obscure the lower part of the face, sunglasses, and practically the same short spiky hair. They also have the gruff manly unshaved thing going on."

FO's Comment: And along with Zev from Arc the Lad 4, another trend is born!

The Triforce
(Legend of Zelda)

American Academy of Actuaries

Submitted by Nicole, "Even though it's not really a character the Triforce in Legend of Zelda looks a lot like the logo for the American Academy of Actuaries."

FO's Comment: What the hell...? Although I'm pretty sure the Triforce was already based on something else, too. Maybe it's just a common source.

Dr. Neo Cortex
(Crash Bandicoot)

Dr. Muto
(Dr. Muto)

Submitted by Mr. Wael AL-Abri.

FO's Comment: The shapes of the heads are remarkably similar, and so is the choice of profession. They could be brothers, I suppose.

Billy Lee
(Double Dragon)

(Fist of the North Star)

Submitted by Petteri, "Billy Lee from the cartoon version of Double Dragon sure bears a striking similarity to Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star anime, don't you think?"

FO's Comment: That's pretty good. Even right down to the costumes style, color, and shoulder armor. Kenshiro also looks like Sylvester Stallone and maybe someone else, too, but I'm not sure who at the moment...

Mega Man

Submitted by Katokwe Grant

FO's Comment: I'm actually kind of surprised no one's submitted Mega Man and Astroboy before. Now to wait for someone to submit Dr. Light and Dr. Wily and the good and bad doctors from Mazinger-Z.

Yoko Kurama
(Yu Yu Hakusho)

Submitted by Katokwe Grant.

FO's Comment: Allright, that's it. I'm declaring a moratorium on anime people with dog/cat ears. There's too many of these things to keep documenting them all.
